6th Place Finish For Maxwell At Suzuka

31 July 2012 – Team Honda Racing’s Wayne Maxwell and Jamie Stauffer pushed through pain to achieve an incredible sixth place finish at the Suzuka 8 Hour in Japan over the weekend.

The team mates, who were riding for the Dream RT Sakurai Honda Team, started the weekend off well retaining positions inside the top ten throughout practice, and qualifying. Securing seventh position on the grid of 58 motorcycles Maxwell and Stauffer were positive going into race day.

An unfortunate crash during warm-up at turn one for Maxwell resulted in possible broken ribs and a lot of pain. Stauffer took the position of rider one on his CBR1000RR and the team rallied their energy to challenge for the title.

Riding with incredible consistency throughout the entire 8 hours, the Dream RT Sakurai Honda Team riders hovered inside the top ten for most of the race. Maxwell suffered a second crash in the second hour and Stauffer was held back by a ride through penalty. In the final hour the team pushed hard to move their CBR1000RR into the final position of sixth

Back in Australia and in a lot of pain, Maxwell reflected on the weekend: “A sixth place finish is the best result both Jamie and I have had at the Suzuka 8 Hour. It is not what we went in hoping for but with all of the setbacks we faced we are really happy with the result. The race was really tough, at a lot of moments I really wanted to pull into the pits but I called on all of my strength to stay on the bike.”

Agreeing that consistency was key to the team’s success, Stauffer said: “The race was incredibly tough for us and we faced a few setbacks but both of us were so determined we just kept going. The Suzuka 8 Hour is one of the hardest races in the world, we really pushed hard and rode consistently and are pretty happy with our overall result.”

For Honda and the CBR1000RR the world endurance race was a huge success with Honda teams taking the top two spots on the podium and a total of six out of the top ten positions.

Clean Sweep For Maxwell At Round 4

21 May 2012 – In a thrilling display of man and machine over the weekend at Phillip Island, Team Honda Racing dominated Round 4 of the Australian Superbike Championship with #47 Wayne Maxwell making a clean sweep onboard his Honda CBR1000RR.

The Motologic-prepared Honda CBR1000RR featured at the top of the timesheets all weekend with Maxwell recording the fastest lap time in every session he took part in. Fastest in practice and qualifying, Maxwell took the Superpole point and then went on to win both Superbike races in front of a very appreciative crowd of V8 Supercar and Superbike fans.

The front row start was precisely what the Team Principle ordered and the Honda team was looking strong. Race 1 saw the Hondas get off the line well and Maxwell looked comfortable in 2nd behind Waters as he waited for the right moment to pounce. That moment was in lap 8 when Maxwell made the move and made it stick, taking the lead for a convincing win with the fastest lap time of the race, a 1:33.986 sec, 1.466 sec ahead of Waters.

The 2nd Superbike race of the event was extremely entertaining with not only a battle for 1st between Maxwell and Waters, but also a very close battle for 3rd involving Stauffer and 2 others. Maxwell again sat unnervingly behind Waters for much of the race until lap 10 when he took his CBR1000RR to the front to win again.

Maxwell: “A big thank you to the team this weekend, their hard work has paid off and we had a really strong weekend. We have made great improvements to the set-up of the CBR1000RR over the last couple of events and I’ll always be looking for more, but the Honda felt good all weekend. I’m very happy with the result and it has allowed me to move forward in the championship now so I am looking forward to getting to Qld to test and keep the momentum going into Round 5.

Stauffer found himself in a battle for 3rd during Race 2 and looked strong, however a lack of grip meant he was unable to hold on and he finished the race in 5th. Stauffer now finds himself in 4th place in the championship and is hoping the team test this week will help him iron out the wrinkles prior to Round 5.

Heading immediately to Queensland Raceway for testing this week ahead of Round 5 being held there on June 1-3, Team Honda Racing is not looking to hold back on their points charge. Team Principle, Paul Free is very positive heading into Round 5.

Free: “Well done to Wayne on such a strong weekend. His crew, Shaun and Glenn have put a lot of hard work in and it is terrific to see it pay off. A clean sweep is as good as it gets so hopefully they can continue that at the next event. I would like to take the opportunity to thank one of our team partners, Doric Products for their terrific support over the weekend. It was just fantastic to see such a hive of activity on the Superbike grid and Doric were difficult to miss! The atmosphere at the V8 Supercar Phillip Island 300 was great and we always enjoy being involved in the 2 + 4 events. We are definitely looking forward to more events with the V8’s, the feedback I get on combining the 2 disciplines is extremely positive.”

Maxwell Wins Opening Race

19th May 2012 – A terrific day on track for Team Honda Racing today at Phillip Island for Round 4 of the Australian Superbike Championship taking the Superpole point and also 1st and 3rd in Race 1 for the Superbikes.

#47 Wayne Maxwell was fastest in both the qualifying practice sessions, one dry and today’s one wet and his flying lap onboard his CBR1000RR was a 1:34.905 sec to take the Superpole point and place him in P1 for both races.

The Team Honda Racing rider were out-dragged to the first corner, however he was able to recover well and took the lead on lap 8 of the 12 lap race and remained in control until the chequered flag to take the race win with the fastest lap of the race, a 1:33.986 sec.

Maxwell is evidently pleased with his Superpole and race win today and is clearly determined to get even more from his CBR1000RR tomorrow for race 2.

Maxwell: “To get our 1st Superpole of the year is awesome! Then to be able to convert it with our 3rd race win of the year and claw some more points back in the championship is fantastic. Winning races is really what we need to do in order to have a chance at the championship from here on in and the guys at Team Honda Racing is doing a great job of setting me up to do just that so I am looking forward to tomorrow’s race for sure.”

Team Principle Paul Free is pleased with the weekend so far and is really looking forward to the 2nd race of the event tomorrow.

Free: “Overall it was a really good day for our Honda team. Wayne has been in a bit of a class of his own this weekend, on wet or dry track. It was great to see Wayne take the Superpole point. The race today showed the Honda’s strengths as Wayne had good pace throughout. I’m looking forward to the warm-up tomorrow as we are still trying to find that couple of tenths. The race tomorrow should be another terrific battle.
