18th May 2012 – Round 4 of the Australian Superbike Championship has kicked off in style for Team Honda Racing with the CBR1000RR topping the timesheets in both the Practice session and today’s Qualifying 1 at Phillip Island.
It was #47 Wayne Maxwell who recorded the fastest lap in free practice this morning, a 1:34.800 sec as the Honda rider tried some new settings before the afternoon’s qualifying session.
The cool weather and dry track appeared to suit Maxwell today; his fastest lap of the 30 min qualifying session on a single set of tyres was on the very final lap.
Maxwell: “Today was obviously a successful day, to end up with provisional pole in Q1 is a great start. We still have Q2 and Superpole to come so hopefully we can make further progress with the bike in readiness for the races.”
22nd April 2012 – A very hot Round 2 at Hidden Valley Raceway this weekend sees Team Honda Racing on the podium with Maxwell in 2nd overall
Maxwell’s 2nd placing overall for Round 2 saw a smile on his face, however he was of course not happy without a win.
Maxwell: “To finish 2nd overall for Round 2 is good and I have moved up in the championship points to 5th, but there is still more I can get out of the Honda CBR1000RR. We will make some changes before the transporter heads to Perth for Round 3 and I will definitely be ready to battle for the win. I would like to thank the team for all their hard work this weekend especially in this heat, they always put in 110% for us.”
Team Principle, Paul Free will have his team working on the Honda CBR1000RR’s prior to the transporter leaving directly for Perth which is the next event in 2 weeks time.
Free: “Once again the Darwin circuit has been very hard on us, it has been a bloody long hot weekend. Ultimately we haven’t achieved the results we had anticipated with Wayne so we need to get our teams thoughts together and move forward into Perth. We have a much better idea of what we need for our bike right now, so we should be able to take it a good step forward in Perth.
The next event for the Superbikes will be at Barbagallo in Perth on the 4th – 6th May.
21 April 2012 – A very strong day of qualifying today for Team Honda Racing at Hidden Valley places #47 Wayne Maxwell in P2 on the grid for tomorrow’s Superbike races.
#47 Wayne Maxwell
Defying the rising heat of the Hidden Valley circuit, Maxwell performed well in the 2 Qualifying sessions with Maxwell recording his fastest lap time of 1:08.033 sec in Qualifying 2 securing the Honda rider a spot in Superpole.
Maxwell’s Superpole lap time was 1:07.751 sec which was just 0.135 sec behind Waters, placing him in P2 on the grid. The Superpole lap times suggest that tomorrow’s racing will be close and fierce in the Superbike Category.
Maxwell: “I’m happy with the progression throughout the weekend so far. To be starting from 2nd on the grid and to be so close to pole is great. We are still working through set-up, but I am confident with our race pace for tomorrow.”
20th April 2012 – Round 2 of the Australian Superbike Championship has begun at Hidden Valley Raceway with rain affecting many sessions throughout the day today.
The first Superbike session was cut short by oil on the track however #47 Wayne Maxwell in 2nd place on the timesheets (1:08.733 sec). Wayne is looking to bridge the gap to his team mate who was fastest overall.
It was then that rain began to interfere in the day’s proceedings and the remaining practice sessions were shortened. The second Superbike practice session was of little value in moving forward after it was stopped after only a short period of time.
Team Honda Racing Team Principle Paul Free says he feels comfortable that the team is heading in a good direction despite the inclement weather impeding the practice sessions.
Free: “Wayne was looking comfortable out on track and although we were not able to get as much time on track as we had hoped, we have still gained a good understanding of what we require moving into qualifying tomorrow. Hopefully, the weather is better tomorrow so we can have some longer sessions out on track to really prepare us for racing on Sunday.”
